Abstract— The Autonomous Exploration for Gathering Increased Science System (AEGIS) will soon provide automated targeting for remote sensing instruments on the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission, which currently which currently has two rovers exploring the surface of Mars. Currently, targets for rover remote-sensing instruments, especially narrow field-of-view instruments (such as the MER MiniTES spectrometer or the 2011 Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Mission ChemCam Spectrometer), must be selected manually based on imagery already on the ground with the operations team. AEGIS enables the rover flight software to analyze imagery onboard in order to autonomously select and sequence targeted remote-sensing observations in an opportunistic fashion

AEGIS Automated Targeting for the MER Opportunity Rover

The Autonomous Exploration for Gathering Increased Science (AEGIS) system enables automated data collection by planetary rovers. AEGIS software was uploaded to the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission’s Opportunity rover in December 2009 and has successfully demonstrated automated onboard targeting based on scientist-specified objectives. Prior to AEGIS, images were transmitted from the rover t...

Two Years of Autonomous Targeting Onboard the Mer Opportunity Rover

The Autonomous Exploration for Gathering Increased Science (AEGIS) system provides automated, sciencedrive data collection for planetary rovers. AEGIS is currently being used onboard the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission’s Opportunity rover to provide autonomous targeting of the MER Panoramic camera. Prior to AEGIS, targets were typically manually identified in images transmitted to Earth an...

Microelectrode recording duration and spatial density constraints for automatic targeting of the subthalamic nucleus.

BACKGROUND Accurate detection of the boundaries of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery using microelectrode recording (MER) is considered to refine localization and may therefore improve clinical outcome. However, MER tends to extend operation time and its cost-utility balance has been debated. OBJECTIVES To quantify the tradeoff between accuracy of STN local...

Automated 3-dimensional brain atlas fitting to microelectrode recordings from deep brain stimulation surgeries.

OBJECTIVE Deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgeries commonly rely on brain atlases and microelectrode recordings (MER) to help identify the target location for electrode implantation. We present an automated method for optimally fitting a 3-dimensional brain atlas to intraoperative MER and predicting a target DBS electrode location in stereotactic coordinates for the patient. METHODS We retrospe...

Mer590, a novel monoclonal antibody targeting MER receptor tyrosine kinase, decreases colony formation and increases chemosensitivity in non-small cell lung cancer

The successes of targeted therapeutics against EGFR and ALK in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have demonstrated the substantial survival gains made possible by precision therapy. However, the majority of patients do not have tumors with genetic alterations responsive to these therapies, and therefore identification of new targets is needed. Our laboratory previously identified MER receptor ...
